A weekend in pictures..

Posted on 11:54 PM by fdgdfg
How the weekends just fly by, all my good intentions of posting last night flew out the window for a lovely romantic evening with my hubby. I have so many little things to share I thought it be best just to show my weekend in pictures...

Friday Afternoon

Collages and inspiration an inspiration board

A beautiful owl brooch from Betty Jo Designs (we had a little brooch swap)

Saturday

Channeling Coco Chanel

Fabulous books from our morning rummage of Salvo's Op Shop

Tiny treasures for the Writing Workshop, 'Treasure Box' activity

Lights off for Earth Hour - reading by candlelight

Sunday

A beautiful 'just because' pressie from my hubby
The Sun's Babies by Edith Howes 1911

A beautiful weekend and a fabulous new week beginning, four days until holidays, I can't wait! Many wonderful things to do, including a zine to create, stock to make for some up coming projects, an interview with the local paper, two novels to read, a makeover of the lounge room and backyard and a visit from my beautiful in-laws all the way from Queensland. I think I will be a busy girl!

Lovely mail and scraps galore!

Posted on 10:11 PM by fdgdfg
This is how every Monday should be, a sleep in and a yummy breakfast, reading lovely blogs and some sewing and designing, I just love a public holiday.

One thing that has made me frown a little is the strange behaviour of blogger this afternoon. I was very worried for a moment to see a random message pop up instead of my blog so I'm whipping up a quick post to make sure everything is working properly.

I was so excited to receive a lovely package in the mail on Friday, I just had to share my latest purchase from the fabulous RE-Read Design. Hayley makes the most gorgeous resin brooches created from old children's books and I couldn't resist this adorable little brooch that was just so me.

Sweet little package wrapped in lovely recycled book pages and string

My beautiful 'Follow Me' rabbit brooch... I hope he will lead me to wonderland

Make sure you pop over to the RE-Read design Etsy shop and blog and check out the beautiful brooches and softies on offer. I'm eye off the very cute matching owls next. There are just so many to choose from.

I've been having a fabulous time this afternoon sorting through all my lovely scraps to create a collection of new collage brooches.

'The Collector' Collage Brooch

The Collector is now in my Etsy shop and there will be more to come over the next few days. There are just so many lovely occupations and hobbies in the world, now that I've begun I want to make them all. Some of my favourites, the Oceanographer, the Librarian and the Explorer. What occupations fascinate you?

We had an amazing night under the stars last night at the Paul Kelly concert and I've got some photos to share with you as soon as I finish sewing on some buttons and brooch backs.

PS. Watch out for crazy blogger messages.

Wishing you a productive Monday, full of creative moments

Fabulous Friday!

Posted on 12:15 AM by fdgdfg
I opened the mail box this morning with my fingers crossed hoping that the mailman would be nice enough to stop at my house and he did, with not one but two fabulous treasures! I love Etsy delights.

The first delight is my very own tinnie from none other than Tinniegirl herself. Everyone needs a tinnie, it was like Christmas opening this parcel (my favourite, brown paper and string) and inside the most lovely tin full of very cute fabric, lace, buttons and even a few very delightful vintage pegs.

My beautiful Tinnie, I've named her Petti...

Inside my tinnie! I can't wait to start creating! Isn't she beautiful..

Pop over to Tinniegirl's blog and check out all her lovely tinnies on her Etsy shop. She is adding more to her collection very soon so get in quick and tell her I sent you.

My second delight was the too beautiful for words journal I bought from Hens Teeth. Viv is such an amazing artist! This journal is so divine, I just keep looking at it and smiling, thinking of way to fill all those amazing pages..

My beautiful new journal..

Visit Viv's beautiful blog to keep up to date with all her beautiful creations and buy yourself or someone you love one of her many beautiful things from her lovely shop.

My Friday has been fabulous, I hope yours has too. What are your plans for the weekend? I'm off to hunt down some more vintage postcards and letters, perhaps even a little something for the house, then have French hot chocolate at Pleasentrees and stock my little shop full of lovely new brooches.

My thoughts for the day... Drink tea in the garden and go searching for Wonderland in fabulous shoes..

Searching for Wonderland....
Shoes- Sam Edelman, Tea Cup- garage sale, Tea Pot-The Tea Centre, Books- second hand shops..

With love from Wonderland

Hot days and nice surprises..

Posted on 10:56 PM by fdgdfg
It's been another hot day here in Mildura as the girls in Melbourne will know, we are definitely in the middle of summer. I've been getting back into work mode with school joining back at the end of next week, writing lesson plans and finishing my teaching portfolio. I must say I've also been procrastinating from thinking too much about work, instead finding some fabulous blogs to discover and read.

I also found spent a little while cleaning up my studio after the weekend's creations which are now on their way to Stay Human Gallery. My favourite part of the studio are the old inbuilt selves that are just perfect to display all my favourite things. Every now and then I give them a bit of a makeover and fill them with beautiful bits and pieces.

Every piece tells a story... My favourites include, my vintage wooden box of buttons, Romeo and Juliet cigar box, op shop vase, cup and saucers, Sark cards and delightfu handmade owl pin cushion from Courtney, beautiful photograph of Montmartre from Tara, bird card I purchased recently from moonmum and just some of my collection of diaries, notebooks and journals I have been keeping for the last 10 years.

My experimenting went well last night, got to love some crafty experimenting, I really want to create tiny little wearable canvases. I found some cute little ones from Lincraft had a fiddle last night to see what I could come up with. I'm really happy with the design, however the canvas is still a little big to wear as a necklace, so I think I will have to make them myself. I think this size might just work well as little brooches so I will do some further experimenting on the weekend to see. Here is my little prototype I was working on last night.

Tiny wearable art..

My little thrill for the day was being included in a treasury for the first time. My lovely bestie Courtney made her first treasury today and was very sweet and included one of my brooches. I've always wanted to see one of those little stars appear and I nearly jumped out of my chair when I saw it today. She has put together a beautiful collection which is just a must to check out.

Her Writing

I will leave you with my very favourite find of the day.. A gorgeous little bird (I know I just love birds) beautifully created by Ann Wood handmade.

'Jolly- Grey Scarf'

I hope your Tuesday was cooler then mine.. I only wish that tomorrow would bring a little rain or maybe just a dip in the pool.
Much love

Behind the scenes..

Posted on 11:00 PM by fdgdfg
Its been a lovely day here in the country, not quite as hot as yesterday which has been lovely and with the sun shining and the roses blossoming in the garden what a perfect day to be creative.

I've been busy in my studio working on quite a few different artworks, including some new pieces for Art on your Sleeve an upcoming exhibition at Stay Human in Richmond, Melbourne which is being curated by the fabulous Nicole Tattersall. It's been fabulous creating some diverse pieces and developing tiny works of art what will be transformed into badges.

Inspired by Cori's recent post of the loveliness in her studio, I thought I would take a few photos of my own little space while in the midst of creating this afternoon.

Mixed Media work in progress..

Little piles of vintage pages, fabric and postcards seem to develop everywhere!

An old jug filled with ribbon and lace..

One of my typewriters. When the sewing machine isn't going, the constant humming of the typewriter can be heard throughout the house.

My little studio..

A big thank you to the delightful Tinniegirl for her feature of my brooches over on her lovely blog. Tinniegirl has been so supportive of my work. You must check out her fabulous 'Tinnies', yummy vintage tins filled with crafty goodness. I can't wait to purchase one very soon.

I'm off to start work on my besty Courtney's custom order. Keep an eye out for this girl, she is making some of the most amazing hand dyed wool around!

Hope you are enjoying a fabulous day.

Baby it's cold outside!

Posted on 4:15 AM by fdgdfg
Actually it's freezing! As I walked to work this morning it was 3 degrees. It reminded me of a December day in Paris walking to the Louvre. The problem is its not even winter yet! Our little rose garden is feeling it too. Ben pointed out that the roses had frosted over this morning! See I'm not the only one that's cold!

Having grown up in Cairns where anything under 15 degrees was cold, I have no idea what is going on! Everyone is talking about fire wood, electric blankets and especially hot water bottles.

Thought I better check out the whole hot water bottle thing! I have owl obsessed eyes on this one!

How cute! I found it at Print and Pattern a very cute site for all sorts of goodies.

Maybe it will help me stay warm! If only I could take one into work with me! That would make the students laugh!

Wish me luck staying warm tonight x
